The bicentennial of the birth of the major French painter and sculptor Gustave Courbet (1819-1877) is celebrated in 2019.
The bicentennial steering committee, directed by the Doubs department in France, has wished to include the town of La Tour-de-Peilz in the event.
The town decided to create a themed trail “Gustave Courbet” through the streets of the city. It focuses on the life of the painter and more specifically his last few years that he spent in La Tour-de-Peilz from 1874 to his death in 1877.
This open-air museum combines the display of his works with new technologies and offers a striking visit of the places the painter liked to spend time in.
